Oriente

Oriente refers to the Eastern region of Ecuador mainly known for the Amazonian rainforest. Following are photographs from the cities of Ahuano and Puyo. Ahuano is located at the beginning of the Napo river that crosses most of Oriente and on its way enters the Amazonas in Peru. The village is a mixture of the neighbouring rainforest, tourism and local life. Children play soccer in the street, parents shop for groceries and tourists are welcome by the shaman. Puyo, the capital of the Pastaza province hosts a workshop producing ultra light-weight wooden Toucans and other gifts. The only Toucans I have ever seen during my short stay.
